Hello! My name is Cantika, and I am an Industrial Engineering student who will graduate in December 2026. I have never been an au pair before, but I am someone who loves trying new things, meeting new people, and learning from new experiences. That is one of the reasons why I decided to apply to become an au pair.
I have always been very close to children and genuinely enjoy spending time with them. I have three nieces and nephews, and I have been actively involved in their lives since they were very young. One of them has been especially close to me since he was a newborn. His mother was a single mom at the time, so I helped take care of him while growing up. I taught him how to read and write, basic Mandarin, mathematics, and even how to ride a bicycle. I was there when he took his first steps, and we have always had a very close bond.
Whenever his mother had to travel, I would take care of him, prepare his meals, help him with his routines, and take him to and from school. We are so close that when he has a difficult moment or a conflict with his mother, she often asks me to talk to him and help him calm down. He now lives in Hawaii with his mother, but we still share a very special bond.
I also spend a lot of time with my other nieces and nephew, who are three years old and thirteen months old. I often take them to school, swimming lessons, and English classes. My youngest niece has special needs, and I have been involved in her growth and development as well. I regularly take her to therapy at the hospital and enjoy being there for her.
Beyond my family, I also love spending time with my friends' children and my younger cousins. Children often feel comfortable around me because I like to approach them as little friends rather than simply telling them what to do. I enjoy playing with them, listening to their stories, and joining in their little adventures. I think one of the reasons I love being around children is that I can truly be myself with them. Their honesty, curiosity, and funny little personalities always make me smile.
I would describe myself as caring, patient, nurturing, and responsible. I also enjoy cooking and baking, traveling, exploring new places, and learning new things. I currently work freelance and also run a small online jewelry business, which has taught me to be independent, responsible, and organized.
I have also participated in social activities with children with special needs. Experiences like these have taught me to appreciate the small things in life and reminded me to be grateful. I hope that becoming an au pair will not only allow me to experience a new culture and improve my language skills, but also allow me to become a meaningful part of a family's everyday life. I would love to share my culture with my host family, learn from them, and create beautiful memories together
