Introduction personnelle

My name is Jenni, I’m 18 years old (turning 19 this August) and I’m from the north of Germany. I recently finished school and decided to take a gap year before going to university. Instead of starting to study straight away, I want to spend some time abroad, get to know another country properly and experience everyday life somewhere new. I’ve always enjoyed spending time with children, which is why becoming an au pair felt like a good fit for me. Since I was 16, I’ve been babysitting for different families in my area. I’ve also done internships in two kindergartens, a speech therapy practice and a home for children with disabilities. Especially my time there made me realise that I would like to work in a social profession in the future. At the moment I’m thinking about studying something related to education, social work or working with people with disabilities. I don’t expect every day to be perfect, and I know that living with another family also means adapting to different routines and habits. I actually like that, because I think it’s part of getting to know another culture. For me, it’s important that we can communicate openly and that everyone knows what to expect. When I’m looking after children, I like to go outside, visit playgrounds, go for walks, play games, read books, do crafts or bake together. I also enjoy being creative myself, I like drawing and paintin and I think it’s nice when children have the chance to be creative too. If they enjoy being outdoors, even better, because I love nature and would be happy to explore it with them. A little about me: I’m usually quite calm when I first meet people, but once I get to know them, I’m very open and talkative. In my free time I go to the gym several times a week, I love reading, and I enjoy going for walks. I used to dance for many years, and even though I don’t dance anymore, staying active is still an important part of my life. I think one of my strengths is that I’m reliable and quite independent. I’ve always liked having a bit of structure, but I’m also flexible when things don’t go exactly as planned. I enjoy helping out and I’m happy to be involved in everyday family life. More than anything, I’m looking forward to getting to know your family, seeing what your everyday life is like, and hopefully becoming someone your children enjoy spending time with. I think the nicest part about being an au pair is that both sides can learn something from each other, and that’s exactly what I’m hoping for.
